There is nothing worst than dry, cracked feet, especially when the skin around the toes begins to split. It is painful and, frankly, disgusting. But there are some things you can do to help keep them looking beautiful, and some things you shouldn’t do that might surprise you.
When you have dried and cracked heels or toes, your best friend is a pumice stone. You can also get foot files made from pumice that has a long handle that makes it easier to grip and use. You should always file in one direction to keep from damaging the skin any further. This will give you an even surface, and should be used to maintain skin every night, just after a shower or bath.
For moisturizing, don’t use lotion. It may come as a shock to make people, but using lotions, even thick ones meant to hydrate, will do the opposite. While the skin will appear soft for a short time, it will end up drying out long term. Instead, use vaseline, or, if you don’t like the oily feeling, you can use water-based conditioners. These will keep feet soft, without the long term effects that lotions will create, and remove cracks.
